Hair of the Dog Wines, 2021 Grenache
Our Grenache offers aromas of vine-ripened red berries woven with traces of violets and brown baking spices. The first sip reveals a mouthwatering essence of intense strawberry, juicy raspberry and black cherry mingled with vanillin oak notes and softening tannins. The deep flavors expand, satiating the palate as hints of cocoa, dried herbs and pomegranate appear while the wine lingers on the finish.

Grenache, called Garnacha in Spain, is commonly used in French blends like Châteauneuf-du- Pape, Cote du Rhône, Lirac and many more. In the U.S., Grenache has grown in popularity as a stand-alone varietal, and is also found in GSM blends—Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre. More robust than Pinot Noir and lighter than Bordeaux varietals, Grenache offers delicious fruit forward flavors balanced with an integrated structure.
The Moon Mountain District, a higher elevation region within Sonoma County, borders Napa Valley along the Mayacamas Mountains. This mountainous area with its steep hillside vineyards creates conditions that stress the vines. Although that might sound like a negative, it is exactly what winemakers love. Stressed vines ultimately produce wines with great depth and intense flavors. We were fortunate to source Grenache grapes from this region, and love the resulting wine.
